All Stats NZ full time employees are entitled to 20 days of annual leave each year, rising to 22 days after five years’ service. On top of this, we have an additional three days departmental leave provided to cover the days between Christmas and New Year when the office is closed.
Personal health and wellbeing is very important to us, so we offer a sick leave allowance of nine days per year, as well as various circumstantial leave, such as parental leave and bereavement leave, for example.
Stats NZ also has a ‘family friendly’ policy, to ensure that our people are able to maintain a good balance between their work and family life. This was developed after consultation with employees about their needs, and now includes up to six days a year Caregiver leave to deal with family sickness or other needs of dependents. It also includes the opportunity to extend parental leave or take leave without pay to look after children or other dependants such as elderly parents.
